The main U.S. market indices declined by almost 3% after two consecutive weeks of gains. Investors were concerned that recent conflicting inflation statistics may cast doubt on the U.S. Federal Reserve’s projections that the rate of interest-rate rises would slow down.On Friday, representatives from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund voiced their worries about the deteriorating prognosis for the global economy and the possibility of a recession. Currently, the IMF predicts that after reaching 3.2% this year, global growth would fall to 2.7% in 2023.An index that tracks investors’ expectations for short-term U.S. stock market volatility increased by around 19%, only the second time in the previous eight weeks that it had done so. The Cboe Volatility Index dropped last week to its lowest point since mid-August.
The S&P 500 closed the week down -2.90%. One-Signal Xpert and Xpress returned -0.50% and -1.83% respectively.
